Iraqi security forces detain IS commander

Iraqi security services have detained a senior commander of the Islamic State group as a result of an anti-terrorist operation in Kirkuk province. The Iraqi agency reported this on their page on the X Social Network.

“Due to the painstaking intelligence work and constant monitoring, counter-terrorism officers, together with the operational department of the Kurdish troops, detained the commander of the terrorist group Abu Bahari in Kirkuk province,” the statement said.

According to the agency, Bahari led the so-called “foreign” battalion of the IS group.

The report also noted that the operation was carried out at the instruction of the Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani, who is also the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces.
