A terrorist who went to Syria was sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment in Kazakhstan
The National Security Committee has completed a criminal investigation against one of the residents of the Ulytau region for promoting terrorism and inciting religious hatred and for participation in the activities of a terrorist group. This was reported by MIA Kazinform with reference to the press service of the National Security Committee (NSC) of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The Satpayevsky District Court of the Ulytau region found the person guilty of committing these crimes and sentenced him to 6 years in prison. The investigation established that in 2016, the convict and his family went to Syria, where he stayed as a member of Da’esh.
As a result of the measures taken, it was possible to establish the whereabouts of the militant abroad, and then, with the help of foreign partners, to detain him and in June 2023, repatriate him under NSC escort to Kazakhstan. On September 22, 2023, the verdict came into force.
