17 persons suspected of transferring money to IS detained in Turkey

During a large-scale operation in Istanbul, Turkish police detained 17 suspects accused of transferring money to members of the Islamic State group, local media reported.

Authorities determined that the suspects were illegally transferring money between Türkiye and conflict zones through companies and individuals, private news agency Demiroren reported.

According to Demiroren, the Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Bureau of the Istanbul General Prosecutor's Office identified 20 suspects who allegedly maintained ties to the extremist group. The police detained 17 of them.

Türkiye designated IS a terrorist organization in 2013 and began countering it after the group claimed responsibility for a series of deadly attacks on Turkish soil.
