A repeat offender sentenced to 11 years in a penal colony for promoting terrorism in Bashkiria,

Dmitry Gorbenko, a native of Samara born in 1996, after being convicted of disseminating terrorist ideas, continued his activities in correctional colony No 21 in Sterlitamak.

As state security officers established, while serving his sentence from September 2020 to November 2021, Gorbenko kept working on persuading inmates that they were “simply obliged” to wage a “holy war” against non-Muslims and all of Russia. He was also coaxing them to join the Islamic State and Taliban foreign terrorist organizations banned on the territory of the Russian Federation, in order to subsequently go to Syria in order to fight against the local government and the armed forces of the Russian Federation.

The investigative department of the federal security service opened a criminal case against Gorbenko for facilitating terrorist activities (three counts) and for public calls for terrorism, its justification and propaganda (three more counts).

The Central District Military Court of the city of Samara found Gorbenko guilty and sentenced him to eleven years and ten days in a strict regime penal colony, prohibiting him from engaging in any activities using electronic or information and communication networks for two years.
