Former student to face trial for promoting terrorism
A former foreign student of a university in the Altai Territory will face trial for participation in a terrorist organization and propaganda of this organisation. Since the beginning of 2023, the foreign citizen has publicly justifying and promoting the activities of a foreign terrorist organization operating in Afghanistan which is banned in Russia. The young man was working to develop an image of righteousness, attractiveness and even “godliness” of the terrorist organization and convince his conversation partners of the need to join its ranks and become participants in “military jihad.”
During the investigation, he declared his readiness to participate in hostilities as part of a banned organization, as well as to kill “infidels.”
Criminal cases under Articles 205.2 (Public Justification and Propaganda of Terrorism), 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Involving a Person in Participation in the Activities of an Organization that is Designated as Terrorist), 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Participation in the Activities of an Organization that is Designated as Terrorist) with an indictment were sent to the court for consideration on the merits.
