Eleven people killed by gunmen in eastern Iraq

Eleven people were killed and nine others were injured on Thursday when unidentified gunmen attacked a civilian vehicle in Diyala province in eastern Iraq. An employee of the military command of the region Alaa al-Saadi informed Xinhua news agency about this.

According to him, the car was hit by a roadside bomb and came under heavy fire in a village near the town of al-Wajihiyya, about 90 kilometers northeast of Baghdad.

Since 2003, the ethnically diverse Diyala province has been plagued by unrest and sporadic violence between Kurdish, Sunni and Shia communities.
