The Eastern District Court sentenced a resident of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, a native of one of the Central Asian countries who was granted Russian citizenship, to 5 years in prison for financing ISIS.
It was established that the man had good earnings. He decided to share his wealth with the militants. In 2015, the defendant met supporters of a banned organization. He learned how money could be transferred to the needs of terrorists. Transfers were sent from Russia to Turkey. Thousands of rubles and dollars flew from Sakhalin to Istanbul this way.
The intelligence services detained the recipient in Turkey in 2018. He was transferred to counterparts in Uzbekistan and imprisoned for 19 years. In prison, he told when, how much and from whom in Russia he received donations for his “brothers in faith.” Officers of the Sakhalin Border Department of the FSB of Russia detained a sponsor of terrorists.
