15 IS militants arrested in India
Officers of the National Investigation Agency of India arrested 15 militants of the Islamic State terrorist group during an anti-terrorist operation in the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka, TASS reports.
“The detainees were actively involved in terrorist activities, including manufacturing of improvised explosive devices for attacks and violence throughout India,” The Times of India quoted a spokesman of the investigation agency. “They acted under the leadership of foreign supervisors to disrupt peace and order in the country.”
Those arrested were charged with prohibited activities and propaganda of terrorism.
The arrests were made during a large-scale operation by security forces in 44 districts and towns of Maharashtra and Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka. During the operation, large amounts of money, electronic communications and weapons were confiscated from extremists.
