FSB detains 14 residents of Karachay-Cherkessia for participation in an extremist cell
In Karachay-Cherkessia, the activities of a cell of At-Takfir Wal-Hijra extremist religious association banned in the Russian Federation were thwarted. Fourteen of its members were detained, and weapons, ammunition, communications equipment and extremist literature were seized during a search. This was reported by the regional department of the FSB.
According to the FSB department, it was previously established that the detainees were involved in the activities of an organization banned in Russia, as well as in the propaganda of religious extremist narratives, including through the Internet.
A criminal case has been launched regarding the activities of this cell, and some of its members have become defendants. It is being decided whether to initiate criminal cases against the remaining detainees.
