An Uzbek citizen is wanted for participation in hostilities in Syria

Security forces have put an Uzbek citizen fighting in Syria for the radical movement on the international wanted list, a Podrobno.uz correspondent reports with reference to the Internal Affairs Department of the Andijan region of Uzbekistan.

 

In June 2021, 46-year-old native of the Balykchi district Mashrab Yusupov left for Kyrgyzstan. This is where he fell under the influence of foreign terrorist organizations and moved to Turkey, and fr om there to Syria, wh ere he underwent combat training in the Katibat al-Tawhid wal-Jihad organization. Now he is actively involved in hostilities on the side of the radicals.

 

In 2022, a criminal case was opened against Yusupov for undergoing training, leaving the country or traveling for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities, as well as creating, leading, and participating in religious extremist, separatist, fundamentalist or other prohibited organizations.

 

The militant has been put on the international wanted list. He faces up to 20 years in prison.

 

Law enforcement officers are asking citizens to report persons promoting radical and religious extremist narratives.
