Father and son convicted of preparing for terrorist attack in Transbaikal of Russia

In Transbaikal of Russia, a father and son were convicted of preparing for a terrorist attack. The young man was a member of Ha’y’at Tahrir al-Sham foreign terrorist organization, banned on the territory of the Russian Federation. These two transbaikal residents stored and manufactured weapons and explosives. This was reported by ChitaMedia news agency with reference to the press service of the FSB Directorate for Transbaikal.

It was established that at the beginning of 2022, a young man received training from terrorists via the Internet and gained practical skills in making weapons and explosives. He made IEDs, carried out experimental explosions and sent videos to his mentors. At the same time, the man and his father illegally bought and manufactured weapons and ammunition, which they were adjusting in the garage.

The search revealed explosive devices filled with destructive elements, TNT blocks, military grenades, weapons and ammunition of various calibers, as well as prohibited religious literature. After the terrorist attack, the son planned to leave for Syria to participate in hostilities as part of terrorist groups.

The Eastern District Military Court sentenced the young man to 17.5 years, and his father to 7.5 years in a maximum security penal colony.
