The UN Security Council extended the mandate of the team monitoring sanctions against Afghanistan

The United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution to extend the mandate of the monitoring team supporting the work of the Afghanistan Sanctions Committee.


Resolution 2716 stipulates that the group must continue providing support to the Committee for a period of 12 months from the date of expiration of the current mandate in December 2023.

The document recognizes the need to review the sanctions against Afghanistan to maintain peace and stability in the country.


It is noted that all states must continue to take restrictive measures against the Taliban movement, as well as other individuals, groups, enterprises and organizations associated with it and posing a threat to the peace, stability and security of Afghanistan.


The Afghanistan sanctions regime includes an assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo.
