Four arrested in Denmark, Netherlands on suspicion of planning terror attacks

Four people suspected of preparing a terrorist attack have been detained in Denmark and the Netherlands. The detainees have connections with foreign countries and organized crime, said the spokesperson of the Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET) F. Dreyer. He did not provide any details about the identities of those detained or the possible target of the attack.

Three suspects were detained early in the morning during raids in various regions of Denmark, the fourth one detained in the Netherlands.

PET assesses the level of terrorist threat in Denmark as critical. This is the fourth of five existing threat levels. In Denmark and neighboring Sweden, there have been many events involving the burning or desecration of the Koran in recent months. According to Danish police, 483 cases of book or flag burning were recorded from July 21 to October 24.

These actions caused tension in Denmark and Sweden's relations with Muslim countries, as well as unrest. In July, nearly 1,000 demonstrators staged a protest outside the Danish Embassy in the Iraqi capital Baghdad. Last week, the Danish Parliament decided to ban the public burning of the Koran.
