TWO NATIVES OF TASHKENT WHO FOUGHT FOR MILITANTS IN SYRIA DELIVERED TO UZBEKISTAN

Two natives of Tashkent who fought in the ranks of militants in Syria were brought back to Uzbekistan, a Podrobno.uz correspondent reports with reference to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

These 27-year-old young men were wanted for committing grave crimes against Uzbekistan.

“These citizens fell under the influence of members of foreign terrorist organizations via the Internet during their seasonal work abroad. Then in August 2021 they moved to Syria, joining the ranks of the foreign terrorist organization Katibat Tawhid wal Jihad and took combat training,” the ministry representatives noted.

In the course of operations conducted jointly with foreign law enforcement agencies, these persons were detained in one of the foreign states and brought back to our country. Currently, a criminal case has been initiated against them and investigation is underway.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs urged  Uzbek citizens abroad, as well as those using the Internet, not to succumb to the calls of extremist and terrorist organizations operating under the guise of religion.

“We also advise you not to join Telegram groups that make you suspicious,” the ministry added.
