THE DELEGATION OF UZBEKISTAN TO ABU DHABI SHARES THE EXPERIENCE OF COUNTERING EXTREMISM AND TERRORISM
A two-day meeting of the delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan with representatives of Hedayah international organization, one of the leaders in countering violent extremism, took place in the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
Hedayah was created by 29 countries and the European Union as a project of the Global Counterterrorism Forum. Its headquarters is located in Abu Dhabi.
The Uzbek delegation included representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry for Support of the Mahalla and the Older Generation, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Center for the Study of Regional Threats non-government organisation and UNDP.
It is known that the experience of Uzbekistan in countering extremism and terrorism is of practical interest to many countries. After all, in the recent years, experts from the University of Maryland (USA) who compiled the Global Terrorism Index, a comprehensive study that measures the level of terrorist activity in the countries of the world, would consistently place our country in the terrorist safe zone.
The two-day event is organized as part of the global project entitled “Building Resilience to Violent Extremism in Asia” (STRIVE ASIA), implemented jointly by the EU and the UN.
The goal of the project is to support prevention and countering of violent extremism in Central, South and Southeast Asia with the participation of stakeholders, including government, civil society and the private sector.
