Lavrov: Taliban in control of situation in Afghanistan

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claimed that the Taliban movement controls the situation in Afghanistan. The minister said this during a press conference on the outcomes of 2023.

“There is a de facto government in Afghanistan, and it really controls the situation,” Lavrov noted. He added that some pockets of tension remain in the country, but overall the Taliban are in control.

Lavrov stressed that Russia maintained regular contacts with the Taliban.

Earlier it became known that the Russian Foreign Ministry approved Kazakhstan’s decision to remove the Taliban from banned organizations list.
