Asaka district native put on the international wanted list for terrorism

Law enforcement officers of the Andijan region of Uzbekistan have put on the wanted list a militant who fought on the side of terrorists in Syria, a Podrobno.uz correspondent reports citing the press service of the regional police department.

Azizbek Rakhimov, a 28-year-old native of the Asaka district of the Andijan region, moved to work in the Russian Federation through Kazakhstan in 2018. During his stay in Russia, he fell under the influence of recruiters from a foreign terrorist organization and joined the radical community. A little later, after crossing Turkey to Syria, he joined the militants, and presently actively participates in hostilities.

A criminal case has been opened against Rakhimov under articles on terrorism, failure to report a reliably known impending or committed crime of a terrorist nature, as well as on establishment, leadership, and participation in religious extremist, separatist, fundamentalist or other prohibited organizations. He has been put on the international wanted list and faces up to 15 years in prison.
