Media: security measures strengthened in Pakistan cities due to terrorist threat
Security forces in Pakistan's major cities are on high alert following intelligence warnings of bomb threats from various terrorist groups. This was reported by The Express Tribune newspaper with reference to intelligence services.
According to the newspaper, about 17 suicide bombers entered Pakistan from Afghanistan. Their goal is to carry out bombings in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock and other key cities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces.
The newspaper indicates that the plan for the terrorist attacks was developed at a secret meeting of the leaders of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) group banned by the Pakistani authorities held in Kabul in January. The plan was also prepared during a meeting of Baloch nationalists when the terrorists were provided with specific targets for attacks.
Intelligence service experts believe that the suicide attacks planned in Pakistan were financed by their supervisors from the Tehrik-i-Taliban Afghanistan group. The perpetrators of terrorist attacks were instructed to target government agencies, buildings of security forces, army troops and police officers. The militants were equipped with night vision devices and modern weapons, including rocket-propelled grenade launchers.
