Media: the drones that attacked the US base in al-Tanf were launched from Iraq
The unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that attacked a US and Western coalition military base in the Al-Tanf area on the Syrian-Jordanian border were launched from the city of Rutba in Anbar province, Shafaq News portal reported.
According to the media, responsibility for the attack lies with the Kataib Hezbollah group, which is part of the Islamic Resistance of Iraq movement. Earlier, a representative of this group said that its fighters would expand the scope of operations against American bases in Iraq and Syria. “All US facilities in the region are legitimate targets for us as long as the Americans provide military support to Israel, which has launched a war against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip,” he indicated.
On January 28, the US Central Command reported that three American troops were killed and 25 were injured as a result of the UAV attack. CNN later indicated that the number of injured soldiers had increased to 34. Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin promised to take retaliatory measures against Iranian-backed forces “at the right time, in the right place.”
