A Kazakhstan native deported from Istanbul under escort
On January 27, a 22-year-old Kazakh man suspected of participating in the activities of a foreign terrorist organization was deported from Istanbul to Almaty under escort, Tengrinews.kz reports with reference to the press service of the National Security Committee.
According to the investigation materials, the abovementioned native of the Turkestan region moved to Syria in 2020 and joined one of the armed groups acting there.
“His detention and extradition to his homeland were arranged by the National Security Committee jointly with Turkish partners, as well as with the support of the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The National Security Committee Criminal is conducting a criminal investigation against this person with regards to his participation in terrorist activities in accordance with Article 257 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Following the sanction of the court, he was taken into custody,” the message says.
