The US is not considering withdrawing from Syria
The United States is not considering withdrawing American forces from Syria due to escalating tensions in the Middle East and attacks on its troops in the region. US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced this at a press conference.
“What's happened in the last couple of weeks is not driving us to consider withdrawing troops from Syria,” he said. According to Western press, there are currently about 900 American troops in Syria. They are placed there illegally, in the absence of the consent of Damascus and a mandate from the UN Security Council.
At the same time, the head of the Pentagon refused to clarify whether the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq is possible. “Discussions continue with the Iraqi leadership about our future presence in Iraq. That has been fairly well publicized,” Austin said. According to him, “this will evolve over time.” The head of the US military refused to directly answer the question of whether a complete withdrawal of US forces from Iraq is one of the options. “It will include discussions about our footprint going forward for sure,” Austin said.
