FSB Directorate for the Vladimir Region identified a foreigner who financed terrorism
The Russian FSB Directorate for the Vladimir Region identified and suppressed the illegal activities of a person who is a native and a citizen of one of the Central Asian republics. This man, born in 1998, is a supporter of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham foreign terrorist organization (hereinafter referred to as FTO) that is banned in the Russian Federation. He was involved in financing of terrorism.
It was established that the accused person became interested in the terrorist narratives, and established an contact online with a member of the abovementioned FTO who was taking part in terrorist activities in the Syrian Arab Republic. In the course of their communications, the person involved decided to start providing financial support for terrorists and transferred personal funds using financial details provided by members of the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham FTO.
This citizen was detained by officers of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Vladimir region in order to suppress his illegal activities,
Based on the results of the operational investigation by the Investigative Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Vladimir Region in April 2023, a criminal case was initiated against the abovementioned foreigner on the grounds of a crime defined under Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
During the trial, the defendant fully admitted his guilt and repented of his crime.
By a verdict of the 2nd Western District Military Court in February 2024, the defendant was found guilty of the incriminated crime with a sentence of nine years in prison.
