An Uzbek citizen convicted In South Korea for financing terrorism

An Uzbek citizen has been sentenced to 1.5 years in prison in South Korea for financing Kataib al-Tawhid wal-Jihad terrorist organization, as reported by Podrobno.uz correspondent.

 

According to Yonhap, the Uzbek citizen arrived in South Korea in 2017 based on a work visa. He was offered via Telegram to finance terrorism. From 2021 to 2022, he was transferring money and valuables to the demostic and foreign accounts of terrorists, for the total amount of nearly $3,000. Some of the funds were converted into cryptocurrency.

 

“Regardless of the amount, there is a very high risk of undermining international peace, as well as national and public security,” stated a representative of the Central District Court in Seoul.
