Terrorist accomplice convicted in Trans-Baikal Territory of Russia

An adherent of the foreign terrorist organization Katiba Tawhid wal-Jihad, banned in Russia, was sentenced in the Trans-Baikal Territory to 16 years in prison, the Second Eastern District Military Court reports.

It is noted that the defendant established contact via a messenger with a person who introduced himself as a member of a terrorist organization. At his request, he purchased a SIM card from a Russian telecom operator.

“He transferred access to this card so that it could be used to collect funds and support the activities of the abovementioned terrorist organization. In addition, he swore allegiance to the leader of the terrorist organization using a video recording,” the report says.

The convicted person received files containing rules for handling weapons and instructions for making explosive devices. Later he decided to go to Syria to take part in hostilities as part of an organization banned in Russia. After purchasing tickets, he was detained by Russian FSB officers.
