ON SOME ROF THE OUTCOMES ESULTS OF THE 19TH INTERNATIONAL MEETING ON SYRIA IN ASTANA

The statement of the guarantor countries (Russia, Iran and Turkey) following the results of the 19th International Meeting on Syria in the Astana format held in the capital of Kazakhstan demonstrates a firm commitment to maintaining the sovereignty and independence of Syria, with an emphasis on the need to comply with the provisions of the UN Charter throughout the world.

The parties reaffirmed their commitment to continue the combat against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, as well as to oppose separatist plans aimed at undermining the sovereignty and territorial integrity and threatening the security of neighboring countries.

The statement condemns ongoing attacks by terrorist organizations and affiliated groups under various names in parts of Syria, including attacks on civilian targets that have led to the death of innocent people.

The guarantor countries reviewed in detail the situation in the Idlib de-escalation zone, emphasizing the need for the full-fledged implementation of all related agreements.

Key attention was paid to the situation in northeast Syria. It was noted that permanent security and stability in this region can only be achieved on the basis of maintaining the sovereignty of Syria and the integrity of its territory.

They condemned the actions of countries that support terrorist entities, including the illegal “government initiatives” in northeast Syria, and any attempt to create new facts on the ground under the pretext of combating terrorism.

They expressed their rejection of the theft of Syrian oil, the proceeds of which should return to the Syrian people.

The focus is on the humanitarian situation in Syria with the condemnation of coercive economic measures that are contrary to the international law, international humanitarian law and the Charter of the United Nations.

An appeal was made to the international community, the UN and its humanitarian agencies to increase assistance to Syria by supporting projects aimed at the fastest recovery, including the reconstruction of socially significant infrastructure facilities. At the same time, it is necessary to conduct demining. All this will help improve the humanitarian situation in Syria and achieve progress in the political settlement process.

The statement emphasises the need to facilitate the safe, dignified and voluntary return of Syrian refugees and displaced persons to their cities, towns and villages, in accordance with the international humanitarian law and the obligation of the international community to provide them with the necessary assistance.
