Kazakh security officers detained a potential terrorist

Staff members of the National Security Committee (NSC) of Kazakhstan, with the coordination of the prosecutor's office and the assistance of the police, detained a resident of Shymkent suspected of promoting terrorism. The press service of the National Security Committee reported on this.

 

“According to the investigation team, the detainee lived abroad for a long time and became involved in radical ideology,” the department’s information says.

 

A pre-trial investigation is being conducted under Part 2 of Article 256 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan (Propaganda of terrorism or public calls to commit a terrorist attack using one’s official position or by a leader of a public association, or using the media or telecommunications networks), which provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for the period from 7 to 12 years.
