FSB and police thwart a terrorist cell in the Chelyabinsk region

Members of the terrorist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami, banned in the Russian Federation, were sentenced to 14 and 18 years in prison in the Chelyabinsk region. This decision was made by the Central District Military Court in Yekaterinburg, the press service of the regional department of the FSB reported to URA.RU on March 5.

The criminal plans were uncovered and thwarted by officers of the Russian FSB Directorate for the Chelyabinsk Region jointly with the regional police commander-in-chief. As it turned out during the investigation, the suspect had already been repeatedly convicted of participation in a foreign terrorist organization, and in 2017-2021 he coordinated the activities of its cell in the Chelyabinsk region. Together with an accomplice, he was also recruiting new members into the organization.

As indicated by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the region, both terrorists have already been prosecuted for similar crimes. They were released from prison in 2017.
