UN Secretary General: In two years the Taliban have achieved progress in Afghanistan

The government of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, after two and a half years in power, has achieved administrative consolidation in the fields of politics, security and economics. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres stated this in his latest report on Afghanistan.

Guterres provided an update on UN activities in Afghanistan and reviewed the economic, security and humanitarian situation. According to Guterres, it is important that the UN continues its activities in Afghanistan. In particular, he expressed satisfaction with the work carried out by the head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) Roza Otunbayeva and her team.

The UN Security Council was scheduled to meet on Afghanistan on Wednesday. During that meeting Roza Otunbaeva will present her report on Afghanistan over the past three months.

The IEA has already commented on Guterres’ report, noting that he repeats his previous statement. Earlier, IEA spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid called UNAMA's work in Afghanistan a failure and called the appointment of a special representative for Afghanistan unnecessary.
