A new IS leader managing the militants has emerged in Iraq

A new leader of the Islamic State (IS) has been identified in Iraq. He is actively working to reorganize the terrorist group. The head of the counter-terrorism agency announced this during an interview with the Arabic channel Al-Hadath.

He stated that there are currently more than 1,000 IS fighters operating in various areas of Iraq. It is noteworthy that a significant part of them have foreign citizenship.

In addition, the Al-Hadath TV channel reported an alarming situation regarding the methods of operation of the Islamic State. The jihadist group has reportedly created a network of tunnels between Iraq and Syria, using these passages for their movement and operations.

This fact highlights the ongoing threat that IS poses to Iraq's security and the ongoing challenges facing Iraqi authorities in combating terrorism.

The Iraqi federal government declared its “complete victory” over IS in late 2017. However, the terrorist group continues to attack security forces and civilians in the country through its sleeping cells.
