CHINA WILL CONTINUE TO PROMOTE INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION TO COUNTER TERRORISM

China will continue to actively participate in the work of the 1267 Committee, the Counter-Terrorism Committee and the 1540 Committee of the United Nations Security Council, promote international cooperation in the combat against terrorism and improve the international nuclear non-proliferation regime. This was stated by China’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Geng Shuang, when speaking abount the work of the counter-terrorism bodies of this global organization at a meeting of the UN Security Council.

He stated that the 1267 Committee is an important anti-terrorism sanctions mechanism of the UN and the Security Council. China appreciates that the monitoring team closely follows terrorist threats, and its published reports serve as an important reference for the work of the Committee and an important basis for global cooperation against terrorism. Members of the Committee must respect the principle of confidentiality and avoid disclosure of inside information that may hinder the work of the body.

According to him, the Counter-Terrorism Committee should optimize allocation of resources, target key issues and focus its efforts and resources on helping African and developing countries to strengthen their capacity.

Geng Shuang also said that the 1540 Committee should continue to uphold the leading role of UN member states, support developing countries in strengthening their nuclear non-proliferation capabilities, improve the focus and effectiveness of aid projects, promote contact and cooperation with relevant institutions and organizations and increase transparency in the implementation of the resolution and in the activities of the Committee.
