The FSB reports that a Hizb ut-Tahrir cell in Crimea is thwarted

A cell of Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami organization, banned in the Russian Federation, whose members were recruiting Muslims and spreading radical ideology, was uncovered in Crimea, the FSB Public Relations Center (PRC) reported on Wednesday.


According to the service, the group members “carried out anti-constitutional activities based on the doctrine of creating the so-called “Global Caliphate,” undermining the institutions of secular society and aiming to overthrow the current government by violent means.”


“They were spreading terrorist ideology among the residents of the peninsula and recruiting Crimean Muslims into their cell,” the intelligence service explained.

 

A significant amount of Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami propaganda materials prohibited in Russia, communications equipment, electronic media used for the terrorist activities, as well as large sums of money in Russian and foreign currencies intended for the needs of the regional organization were discovered and seized at the places of residence of members of the organization.

The investigative department of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol has opened criminal cases, the FSB noted, without specifying what articles were applied.
