The FSB reported the prevention of an armed attack on a Moscow synagogue

The FSB announced the prevention of a terrorist attack in a Moscow synagogue which was orchestrated by militants of the Afghan “branch” of ISIS which is banned in the Russian Federation.

 

“The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation in the Kaluga Region stopped the activities of a cell of Afghan branch of ISIS FTO terrorist organization, banned in Russia, and known as Vilayat Khorasan, whose members were planning to commit a terrorist attack against one of the Jewish religious institutions in Moscow,” the Public Relations Center (PSC) of the intelligence service said on Thursday.

 

According to the FSB, the militants were preparing to attack believers in the synagogue using firearms.

 

“During the arrest, the terrorists offered armed resistance to the Russian FSB officers and, as a result, were eliminated by return fire,” the CSO reported.

 

Based on this fact, the investigative unit of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Kaluga Region opened a criminal case under Articles 30 and 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Preparation of a Terrorist Attack).

 

“During investigative actions at the place of residence of the militants in the Kaluga region, firearms, ammunition, as well as components for making an improvised explosive device were discovered and seized,” the intelligence agency reported.
