RESIDENT OF NOVOSIBIRSK SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS IN COLONY FOR FINANCING TERRORISM

A resident of Novosibirsk was sentenced to 14 years in a strict regime colony for financing Katiba Tawhid wal-Jihad foreign terrorist organization, banned in Russia. This was reported to TASS by the press service of the Federal Security Service of Russia for Novosibirsk region.

“The total amount of funds transferred to members of terrorist group amounted to more than 2.4 million rubles,” the press service said.

A criminal case was initiated and investigated under Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Assistance to Terrorist Activities and Financing of Terrorism”). It was indicated that the Novosibirsk resident was a foreign citizen. He accumulated funds on his bank card and then transferred them abroad to persons wanted for terrorist crimes.
