The ex-head of CENTCOM believes that IS militants will try to attack the US and other countries

Islamic State militants will try to arrange attacks in the United States and other countries. This opinion was expressed on Sunday by the former head of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), retired General Kenneth McKenzie.

“[The IS Afghan affiliate] Wilayat Khorasan and IS in general have a strong willingness to attack our homeland. And we should believe their statements about this. They will try to do so. I believe the threat is growing. We should expect future attempts [at attacks] on the United States and other countries. I think it is inevitable," McKenzie said on ABC air.

The former head of CENTCOM believes that the risk of terrorist attacks organized by the Islamic State has been growing since the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan. “If we had left 2.5 thousand soldiers then, and our NATO partners had left 4 or 5 thousand soldiers, then we could have continued to fight ISIS, which was the main reason for our presence in Afghanistan, and prevent attacks at home. I think then we would have been in a different situation. I think we would have been safer," the retired general added.
