Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that removing Taliban from list of terrorist organizations is being considered

Lifting the designation of a terrorist organization from the Taliban movement (banned in the Russian Federation) is being considered and the final decision will be made by the top leadership of Russia, as the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed to TASS.

“As for lifting the designation of a terrorist organization from the Taliban movement, this issue is being considered by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Russian Ministry of Justice and other relevant Russian agencies. The final decision will be made by the country’s top political leadership,” the Ministry indicated.

In September last year, the special representative of the Russian President for Afghanistan and Director of the 2nd Department of Asia of the Russian Foreign Ministry Zamir Kubulov said that Moscow “does not consider representatives of the Taliban to be essentially terrorists,” and pointed out that the group had abandoned “global jihad” and evolved from a radical to a national movement.
