FSB reports prevention of a terrorist attack in a Moscow synagogue
The FSB reported that a terrorist attack in the capital's synagogue was prevented; a native of Central Asia who was planning the attack was killed during arrest.
“The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation thwarted the criminal activities of a native of one of the countries of Central Asia who planned to commit a terrorist attack in a religious Jewish institution in Moscow at a time of mass gathering of believers,” the intelligence service disclosed.
According to the intelligence service, the foreigner, “while serving a sentence in his homeland for committing an ordinary crime, was proactively establishing contact with persons convicted of participating in terrorist activities, and under their influence he adopted the ideology of a foreign terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation.”
After his release from the colony in November 2023, the man came to Russia. While staying in Moscow, the foreigner was preparing to commit a terrorist attack: he “researched the surrounding areas” near one of the synagogues in the capital, and acquired components for producing an improvised explosive device, the FSB said.
The intelligence service reported that “on April 10, 2024, when detained, the terrorist offered armed resistance and was eliminated by return fire.”
“When his place of residence was searched, a ready-to-use improvised explosive device and explosives were discovered and seized,” the intelligence service stated.
