RUSSIA WILL ESTABLISH FORCES TO COMBAT CYBER-THREATS, SAYS FAS HEAD

The Head of the Russian Fund for Advanced Studies Andrey Grigoriev confirmed that Russian Armed Forces are establishing new type of forces aimed at fighting cyber-threats.

In the early June the source in the Defense Ministry of Russian Federation informed RIA News that until the end of the year Russian army will have a separate type of forces to address cyber-threats.

“Cyber-space – the objective has been already formulated, the decision has been taken to establish cyber-command and new type of forces in the Defense Ministry. We have already contacted potential people to be involved in this job and are currently working on the general concept of the program to be further developed”, - Grigoriev said on Monday on the radio “Moscow Echo”.

Established as an analogue to US DARPA, Russian Fund for Advanced Studies is to promote venture development securing the national security interests. The obligatory condition is brand new achievements in military-technical, technological, social and economic areas. Fund’s annual budget for 2013 is 2.3 billion roubles.
