THREE MILITANTS KILLED IN OVERNIGHT ENCOUNTER IN SOPORE: POLICE

Srinagar – Three militants including a top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander were killed in an overnight encounter in Sopore area of north Kashmir on Monday, police said.

State forces launched a cordon and search operation in Gund Brath area of Sopore on Sunday evening after receiving specific information about the presence of militants in the area, a police official said.

He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened fire at a search party of the forces, who retaliated.

Three militants were killed during the operation, the official said.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone Vijay Kumar said that top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Mudasir Pandit was among those killed in the encounter.

“Pandit was was involved in the killing three policemen, two councillors and two civilians recently. He was also involved in other militancy related incidents,” the top police officer of Kashmir said.
